Barrington began as a farming community, and one of its most  distinctive and endearing characteristics today is its horse farm community. The rolling prairies and woods of Barrington Hills is a little known treasure of Illinois, and a sanctuary for nature, wildlife, animal lovers, and especially horse lovers.

This afternoon I was driving along Plum Tree and came upon these lovely horses and their wonderful owner, Gretchen Hess.  Gretchen was kind enough to allow me to take some pictures of her and her beautiful friends.

oldenburgprofile1When I ran into Gretchen, she was on her way to a lesson in natural horsemanship with Paddy McKevitt of MoonDance Farm at 9 Porter School Road in Barrington Hills.  Paddy is a kind of horse whisperer who helps horses and their owners communicate more fully and understand each other better. If you would like to find out more, you can email Paddy at MoonDance65@comcast.net or you can call him at (847) 343-3819.
