Canadian National is set to begin running freight trains on the old EJ&E train lines tomorrow, March 4. Barrington and neighboring communities put up a strong fight to block these trains, but the Federal Surface Transportation Board found in favor of Canadian National this past December.

Still, the fight against Canadian National continues in earnest. Under TRAC, The Regional Answer to Canadian National, local communities are appealing the Surface Transportation Board’s decision to allow Canadian National to take over the EJ&E and use it for heavy freight traffic.
Right now, the TRAC communities as a group (and in some cases individually) have some of the best rail and environmental attorneys in the nation working daily to represent us in this process and provide us with the compelling legal arguments that can lead to success in the Appeals Court.
