Real estate can be very subjective. If you ask a busy agent how the market is, they’ll say great. If you ask a slow one, they’ll say terrible. For all of last winter and the early months of spring, however, you couldn’t find a busy agent. So, there was a pretty widespread consensus that the market was terrible.
That seems to be changing. I’ve been busier this April than the previous two Aprils of ‘08 and ‘07. But, don’t take my word for it; check out the Tribune’s article from this past Sunday, Home Sales in Chicago Area Start to Show More Signs of Life; Optimism Grows as Sales Increase Slightly, Median Price up from Previous Month.
Does this mean we’re at the bottom? Is this the beginning of a market turnaround? Who knows? Maybe not. It may just be a seasonal phenomenon. It’s impossible to say. But I do see clients getting the best deals in years. I, myself, bought in 2007, and although I love my home, I can’t help but feel a little envious of the inventory and pricing that today’s buyers are enjoying.
